OK, I will admit I am easily distracted by technology. I spend plenty of time checking my various social media accounts - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, text, and email. It's not that I'm driven by these outlets ... it's the fact that those little red flags appear on my phone and I MUST get rid of them immediately. New post, new text, new comment, new share ... new new new ... it's like a giant flashing light or something sparkling in the sunlight. It has my FULL and COMPLETE attention, and that is so much more "interesting" than anything else I might be doing. I'll be completely honest, the level of interest is compounded exponentially if I happen to be trying to get some grading done. I'm just as bad as my students when they are asked to focus on homework or projects when all they really want to do is check-in, keep the streak going, or try out the newest filters.
oooohhh ... a notification just sparkled on my phone ... gotta go :-)
